SPC Advance will be a Net Zero Event

All SPC Advance attendee travel, accommodation, tour transportation and meals will be offset using carbon credits to support The Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa (Minnesota). The carbon fee added to your registration will go directly towards this effort.

Formed by the Indian Land Tenure Foundation (ILTF) and the Intertribal Agriculture Council (IAC), NICC is an Indian-led non-profit program that helps tribal nations and individual Indian landowners take advantage of carbon credit and enter environmental commodities markets through the development of carbon sequestration or offset projects. NICC’s mission is to preserve tribal land ownership and reduce the effects of climate change by conserving the natural resources of tribal lands in order to minimize human-caused greenhouse gas emissions.

The Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa (Minnesota) approved a forest-based carbon sequestration project in July of 2020. The project, which is being developed as part of the Tribal Land Conservation Initiative, will be implemented under the American Carbon Registry’s Improved Forest Management Methodology, which quantifies greenhouse gas emission reductions that exceed current forest management practices. The project covers 9,197 acres of tribal forest land that will sequester more than 77 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MTCO2e) per acre. The land will be dedicated to carbon sequestration for 40 years during which time the Tribe is expected to earn approximately $4 million.

How you can help with carbon efforts
  • Cancel your registration if you can no longer make it so that we can accurately set meals for the correct number of attendees. This will help to reduce food waste.
  • Take public transport wherever possible.
  • Carpool with friends/colleagues if you can.
  • Bring reusable drinkware/bags.
